WHATSOEVER IS LOVELY CHALLENGE-2024 WEEK 19 –

Here is my entry to Whatsoever is Lovely this week Challenge by Xingfulmama – this is week 19.

This week I couldn’t believe that the Aurora was going to visible in North America, all across Canada and the US and as far as Washington DC from what I was reading – I was quite sceptical as usually when this type of event happens something always goes wrong – ie cloudy, rainy or they are just plain wrong.  On Thursday I made my way to the cottage, which is about 1.5 hours out of the city – but still has light pollution , had my camera gear but of course forgot my wide angle 18-35 mm lens (my go to astro lens).  My hubby was bringing it up with him after work.  Sitting on the couch after dinner and looking at my Aurora app every few minutes to see what was happening – but there was a heavy cloud presence in my area (just my luck).  Once my lens arrived, I set up the tripod, made sure all my settings were correct and again checked my app- probably just as it was getting dark – WOW – 56% chance of seeing the aurora in my area (silent scream inside) but still cloudy (excitement goes away )- finally ventured outside around 10 – figured I’d start to shoot “in case” I could get a glimpse behind the clouds.  After 10 pm my son sent me a photo from where he was in Collingwood (no cloud cover at all) and I was in awe at the colours and vibrance of the Aurora – truthfully I was jealous that I wasnt’ there but so happy he got to see them – he used his iPhone and got some awesome photos from his friends house in the city .  I stayed outside shooting and finally around 11 pm the clouds started to lift and I got to see the Aurora unfold before my eyes.   Many people don’t see the Aurora with the naked eye – I am one of these – I do see a bit of green and movement that’s how I figured to start pointing my camera in the area and I could see after I took the photo that I was right.  I started shooting and couldn’t believe how stunning it was – the purples, reds, greens were all around me – at one point I couldn’t figure out which way to point the camera as it seemed that any way I pointed I wouldn’t be disappointed .  I did not get the vibrant pink that my son was able to capture earlier in the evening.  If my dock wasn’t so dirty I would have laid down as the dancing of the aurora was above me – I saw white streaks of motion with hints of green with my eyes – and I just got a new I-phone and couldn’t figure out the night mode as its some yellow button I needed to press to activate the night mode so all my I-phone photos were crazy dark 🙈 never even thought of it as my old I-phone went straight into night mode without any pressing of a yellow button (lesson learned).  As I took photo after photo I was silently screaming as I couldn’t believe how beautiful the sight was right outside my cottage.  I travelled to Yellowknife a few years back and was in awe then – just as much as Friday night – I’m ready to book my next Aurora hunting trip 😂 as I can’t get enough of the magical sight.  here are a few of the photos from Friday night I hope you enjoy them –

Just as the clouds were starting to break up – the pinks and greens starting to peek through.

(PS – I have included my son’s 2 photos, the ones above – shh he doesn’t know and he doesn’t know I have a blog -lol )

Who knows if we will be so lucky to see another event like this so close to home- keeping my fingers crossed lol and next time I’m hoping I will be a little more prepared.

Did you see the Aurora last Friday night ? If so where were you?

xoxo
