I was invited to The Future of Fragrance Holiday dinner with @davelackie and @scentlodge. The venue was Restoration Hardware Restaurant at Yorkdale Mall, on December 11th.

The evening started with all of us taking our seats – the first speaker to come to our table was Melanie Caplan ( National Education Trainer Krikorian Fragrances Canada).
Fragrance trends are showing that Gen Z are buying fragrances based on how the fragrance makes them feel and most of the fragrances today are gender fluid. Some of the fragrances that we were shown were:
- MCM now stands for Modern Creation München, but used to be called Michael Cromer Munich, named after its founder. This is a German brand of leather goods that was founded in 1976. The MCM logo is named Visetos and appears on its products. In 2021 MCM launched their signature fragrance – capturing the brand’s travel heritage – combining the scent of raspberry and apricot (top note ), hand-picked jasmine, white peony and violet leaf (middle note ), vanilla and sandalwood (base note ) the fragrance bottle pays homage to MCM’s renowned backpack.
- MCM Onyx which is more masculine and its first mens fragrance which was launched this year, combining ginger, grapefruit, pink pepper (top note), violet leaf, basil, lavender (middle note), clear wood, vetiver haiti, and tonka (base note) , the bottle is MCM’s backpack in black.

- Oscar de la Renta Alibi – this is a chic and sensual, spicy fragrance – a combination of Mandarin, ginger blossom (top note), vanilla orchid, heliotrope (middle or heart note), musk, praline, amber wood (base note).
Younger women are buying vintage fragrances such as Oscar de la Renta (original) first launched in 1977, a classic, floral, slightly sharp perfume of aromatic notes of lavender, rosemary and carnation, with sweet, powdery, musky base notes. Cashmere Mist by Donna Karen (1994) a light and refreshing scent with Lilly of the Valley, Jamie and sandalwood. Nostalgia is a new trend and all the classic fragrances are in high demand. Many of these scents evoke memories from the past for many of us and takes us to another time in our lives which could have had special memories.
Next Dawn came to our table to do a table reading – lots of optimism for all for 2024.
Next Dave sat with us and told us some exciting news – Scent Lodge will launch an e-store in the new year – super excited for this, can’t wait to see what the e-store will look like and what products they will have. Also Dave had fragrance article that came out in the National Post about how Gen Z buys fragrance , here is the link to the article –https://nationalpost.com/feature/gen-zs-love-luxury-perfume-in-bad-times
I had a wonderful evening full of fragrance information and wonderful to hear where fragrance trends are heading for 2024.
What is your favourite fragrance and why? Have you bought a new scent lately and what inspired your purchase ?
